Austria 1781-E 2 ducats Fr-199
This specimen was lot 6535 in CNG Triton XXIX (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $1,715. The catalog description[1] noted, "HUNGARY, Holy Roman Empire. József II. 1780-1790. AV 2 Dukat. Gyulafehérvár (Kar[ls]burg / Alba Iulia) mint. Dated 1781 E. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Crowned double-headed eagle facing, holding sword and scepter; crowned and collared coat-of-arms on breast. Scratches and marks, slightly wavy. Good VF." Like most double ducats, this type listed for 1781-82, is scarce. Altho Friedberg lists this under Hungary, we have followed the SCWC and filed it under Austria.
