Austria 1683/2-IR 2 thaler Dav-3238
This specimen was lot 1912 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €22,000 (about US$31,152 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HABSBURGISCHE ERBLANDE-ÖSTERREICH · RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Leopold I., 1657-1705. Doppelter Reichstaler 1683, St. Veit. (Blume) LEOPOLDVS : D : GR : RO : IM : SE : AV : GE : H : B : REX Geharnischtes Brustbild r. mit Lorbeerkranz und umgelegtem Mantel//ARCHI : DVX : AVS : E - CARIN : DVX : BVR : 16 - 83 : Gekröntes und verziertes Wappen, umher die Kette des Ordens vom Goldenen Vlies. Von größter Seltenheit. Feine Patina, kl. Schrötlingsfehler am Rand, sehr schön-vorzüglich. Exemplar der Slg. Hollschek, Auktion Austria in Nummis 1, Wien 1956, Nr. 1249; der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 380, Berlin 2023, Nr. 569 und der Auktion H. D. Rauch 118, Wien 2024, Nr. 687. Extremely rare, fine patina, edge flaws, very fine to extremely fine.)"
This very rare double thaler is listed only as overdate 1683/2 but no 1682 exists. The SCWC also notes a ten ducats from the same mint, likely struck from the same dies.
