This specimen was lot 3383 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "OSTERREICH, Erzherzog Karl, 1564-1590. Dukat o. J., Graz. Sehr selten (Austria, archduke Charles, 1564-90, undated ducat, Graz mint. Very rare). NGC MS62." Friedberg lists this type undated (shown here) and with various dates 1576-84. We presume this was issued before the first dated ducat in 1576. The SCWC shows a very similar ducat (KM MB604), struck at Klagenfurt 1565-85, with the reverse legend AUSTRIAE·ET· CARINTHIAE·ZC·.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3.22 g.
