Austria (1510-19) batzen
This specimen was lot 4649 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €1,900 (about US$2,614 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Maximilian I., 1490-1519. Batzen o. J. (nach 1510), Wien. Von großer Seltenheit. Sehr schön +. Aus der Sammlung Kommerzialrat Dr. Herbert Wenzel, Wien. Erworben 1958 von der Bank Leu AG, Zürich. (Holy Roman Empire, Maximilian I, 1490-1519, undated batzen, struck after 1510, Vienna mint. Extremely rare, very fine or better.)"
A batzen was four kreuzer. A denomination long popular in Switzerland, it was overshadowed in Germany by the groschen of three kreuzer. St Leopold appears on the reverse.
