Stack's Bowers May 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71545

This specimen was lot 71545 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $1,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. 30 Dollars (Kilo), 2009-P. Perth Mint. Elizabeth II. NGC MS-70. ASW: 32.1186 oz. Koala series. Quite alluring and enticing, this massive silver issue features a charming marsupial set apart from the argent matte fields with a great deal of glistening brilliance." This denomination was also used for KM 1115 (kookaburra) and KM 1899 (year of the ox), both one kilogram of silver. Since 1989, Australia has entered the bullion and collectibles market in a big way, having produced commemoratives and NCLT's numbering in the hundreds of types.
