Australia 1997 2 dollars KM-101

In 1966, Australia abandoned the sterling coinage she had used since the days of Captain Cook and adopted the decimal dollar and cent. This bust of the queen was used 1985-98. This two dollar coin was introduced in 1988 to retire a paper note. The denomination is still in production although none were made for circulation in 1991.

Recorded mintage: 19,039,000 plus 142,078 for collector sets (BU plus proofs).

Specification: 6.6 g, aluminum bronze, 20.5 mm diameter, segmented reeded edge.
