Stack's Bowers May 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 33033

This specimen was lot 33033 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2024), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. Silver 10 Dollars Piefort, 1994. NGC PROOF-69 Ultra Cameo. Nearly perfect in terms of technical striking with a the bold glare of the subject eagle." This is the piefort version of KM 223. Other ten dollar issues for 1994 include KM 225, KM 226, KM 231 and KM 270. The wedge-tailed eagle (Aquila audax) is found throughout Australia and Tasmania and is a close relative of the familiar golden eagle.

Recorded mintage: 23,326 plus an unknown number of pieforts.
