Australia 1924 6 pence
This specimen was lot 74129 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. 6 Pence, 1924. Melbourne or Sydney Mint. George V. PCGS MS-62. Boldly struck with some flash in the fields, and attractive lilac toning near the edges. From the Richard Margolis Collection." This type was struck 1911-36 at London, Heaton, Sydney and Melbourne. The dates prior to the late twenties are available up through Very Fine. Australia maintained the sterling silver standard until 1945, years after Great Britain had debased her coins to 0.500 fine.
Recorded mintage: 1,038,000 plus proofs (Melbourne and Sydney together), a scarce date.
Specification: 2.82 g, 0.925 fine silver, .083 troy oz ASW, 19.5 mm diameter, designed by W. H. J. Blakemore.
