This specimen was lot 22238 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2019), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. Sovereign, 1888-S. Sydney Mint. Victoria. PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield. Second obverse and angled J. Brilliant with flashy luster and no overly distracting bag marks." This "jubilee head" type was struck 1887-93 at the Sydney and Melbourne mints. The shield reverse used 1871-87 was retired. The Sydney mint was opened in 1855 to strike the gold found in Australia and was not employed to strike ordinary circulation coinage until 1920.
