This specimen was lot 4107 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €605 (about US$794 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"AUGSBURG, BISTUM, Joseph von Hessen-Darmstadt, 1740-1768. Reichstaler 1744, Augsburg. Hübsche Patina, sehr schön. (bishopric of Augsburg, Joseph of Hesse-Darmstadt, 1740-68, thaler of 1744, Augsburg mint. Handsome patina, very fine.)"

While the coinage of the city of Augsburg is prolific, the issues of the bishops are scanty and few. This thaler was struck for the bishop during the War of the Austrian Succession while the Austrian army occupied Bavaria and the city of Augsburg.
