Argentina 1979 100 pesos rev DSLR.jpg

This specimen is one of a type struck 1978-80 for Argentina at the Buenos Aires mint. Another 100 pesos of 1979 honored the centennial of the conquest of Patagonia, which was done by committing genocide on the native Indians. Argentina was to suffer from bouts of hyperinflation for forty years, impoverishing a once prosperous region. In 1970, 100 old pesos = 1 new peso; in 1983, 10000 pesos = 1 peso argentino; in 1985, 1000 pesos argentinos = 1 austral. Another reform would occur again in 1992.

Recorded mintage: 43,389,383.

Specification: 7.9 g, aluminum bronze, 27.3 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 85.
