Argentina 1959 5 centavos

This specimen features Oudiné's portrait of Liberty first used on the five centavos in 1896. This issue is, in fact, the final date of five centavos; coinage of the denomination was suspended as inflation had rendered it useless. Argentina was to suffer from bouts of hyperinflation for the next forty years, impoverishing a once prosperous region.

Recorded mintage: 14,971,000.
