This specimen features Oudiné's portrait of Liberty first used on the five centavos in 1896. This issue is, in fact, the final type of five centavos; coinage of the denomination was suspended in 1959 as inflation had rendered it useless. Argentina was to suffer from bouts of hyperinflation for the next forty years, impoverishing a once prosperous region.
Recorded mintage: 13,108,000.
Specification: copper-nickel plated steel.
