This specimen was lot 3674 in Goldberg sale 74 (Los Angeles, June 2013), where it sold for $460 including buyer's fees. The catalog description[1] noted, "Argentina. 5 Pesos, 1887. Lustrous. NGC graded AU-58." This is an example of a type struck 1881-96 from a design by Oudiné, most likely at the Paris mint. Its face value was five pesos and its weight exactly equal to 25 French francs in gold. This coin was formerly scarce until a hoard of several thousand was sold by Stack's in the mid 1990's.
