This is an example of a type struck 1881-96 from a design by Oudiné, most likely at the Paris mint. Its face value was five pesos and its weight exactly equal to 25 French francs in gold. This coin was formerly scarce until a hoard of several thousand was sold by Stack's in the mid 1990's.

Recorded mintage: 398,000.

Specification: 8.06 g, 0.900 fine gold, .233 troy oz AGW.
