This specimen was lot 34002 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it sold for $4,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "ARGENTINA. 4 Reales, 1815-PTS F. Potosi Mint. PCGS AU-58. Mintage: 26,588; inclusive of the 4 Soles issues of the same date. Tied for finest certified of the date with two other examples on the PCGS population report, none finer. This beautifully preserved example displays lovely mottled patina with richer coloration in the peripheries and gleaming underlying luster on the obverse. This gently handled survivor exhibits signs of handling primarily contained to the exposed areas of the reverse and high points that you would expect for the graded designation. Pleasing to the eye and quite a bit nicer than normally encountered, this piece is sure to excite many quality conscious collectors. From the Pat Johnson Collection." After General Belgrano captured the villa of Potosí, the general assembly in Buenos Aires issued a law authorizing the minting of the first Argentinian coins on April 13, 1813 in silver and gold. Striking continued until November of the same year when the villa of Potosí was recaptured by forces loyal to the Spanish crown. The mint was reoccupied by General Rondeau and the similar designs previously mentioned were struck in 1815 from April to November, when the Spanish forces once again retook the villa of Potosí. The designs from 1826 to 1837 were minted in the province of Rioja.
