The second specimen was lot 34238 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $4,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Obsidional Issues. Siege of Antwerp. Brass 10 Centimes, 1814. Antwerp (Naval Arsenal) Mint. Louis XVIII. PCGS MS-64. Struck 20-30 April. A SCARCER offering in brass, this olive-yellow near-Gem presents tremendous brilliance, a great glossy nature, and a charming strike. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Bruce MacDougall at Boston ANA on 25 August 1973 for $35)." This coin and a similar copper five centimes were issued by Napoleon's troops as they were besieged in Antwerp ("Anvers" in French) by the English, Prussians and Russians. Numerous varieties exist. This variety, signed "JEAN LOUIS GAGNEPAIN", is fairly common; the exalted prices realized are for the very rare quality. It comes struck in bronze or brass and with coin or medal alignment and some have reeded edges. This type is claimed by French and Belgian collectors.
