Anhalt-Dessau 1693 thaler Dav-6011
This specimen was lot 45 in Künker sale 400 (Berlin, February 2024), where it sold for €22,000 (about US$28,541 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

Fürst Johann Georg II. von Anhalt-Dessau ließ es sich auch nach der Annahme des Leipziger Münzfußes durch Kursachsen und Braunschweig-Lüneburg im Jahr 1690 nicht entgehen, sein Münzrecht auszuüben. Er versicherte, daß die in den Jahren 1692 und 1693 geprägten Taler, Gulden, Drittel- und Sechsteltaler im 12-Talerfuß ausgebracht seien, und erreichte deren Zulassung in der Messestadt Leipzig, dem wichtigsten Geldmarkt in der Dessauer Umgebung. Als der Münzwardein des obersächsischen Reichskreises, Salomon Gottlieb Knorr, am 23. Juni 1693 mehrere Gulden mit der Jahreszahl 1693 prüfte, mußte er allerdings einen niedrigeren Silbergehalt feststellen. Die Stücke waren zu 12 Talern, 4 Groschen und 1 Pfennig auf die feine Mark ausgemünzt, so daß sich bei 100 Gulden ein Verlust von 1 Taler, 8 Groschen und 10 Pfennig ergab. Daraufhin wies der Kreisdirektor, Kurfürst Johann Georg IV. seinen Dessauer Namensvetter unverzüglich an, die minderwertigen Stücke einzuziehen. Die Taler, von denen hier ein sehr attraktives Exemplar zur Versteigerung gelangt, waren korrekt im Leipziger Fuß ausgebracht und durften weiter umlaufen. (Prince Johann Georg II of Anhalt-Dessau did not miss the opportunity to exercise his mint right, even after the adoption of the Leipzig mint standard by Electoral Saxony and Braunschweig-Lüneburg in 1690. He assured that the thalers, guilders, thirds and sixths of thalers minted in 1692 and 1693 were issued to the standard of 12 thalers to the mark and achieved their approval in the trade fair city of Leipzig, the most important money market in the Dessau area. When the Mint Warden of the Upper Saxon Imperial District, Salomon Gottlieb Knorr, examined several gulden of the year 1693 on June 23, 1693, he discovered a lower silver content. The pieces were minted at 12 thalers, 4 groschen and 1 pfennig on the fine mark, so that for 100 gulden there was a loss of 1 thaler, 8 groschen and 10 pfennigs. The district director, Elector Johann Georg IV, immediately instructed his Dessau namesake to confiscate the inferior pieces. The thalers, a very attractive example of which is being auctioned here, were correctly issued to the Leipzig standard and were allowed to continue to circulate.)"
This rare type is not priced in the SCWC. Another thaler of 1693 (Dav-6010) also exists. Most of the coinage output of this state was in gulden.
