Anhalt-Dessau 1693-IEG thaler Dav-6010
This specimen was lot 1287 in Sincona sale 47 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 3,000 CHF (about US$3,600 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"GERMANY, Anhalt-Dessau, Herzogtum, Johann Georg II. 1660-1693. Taler 1693, Dessau (?). Fast vorzüglich. Übliche Prägeschwäche. Hübsche Patina. (Germany, duchy of Anhalt-Dessau, John George II, 1660-93, thaler of 1693, Dessau mint. About extremely fine, Usual weak strike, Attractive patina.)"
This is the first thaler we have located for this state in the seventeenth century. Gulden (2/3 thaler) are fairly common but thalers are rare. This type is listed for 1692-93 in KM 6.1 (long palms) and KM 6.2 (short palms, shown here).
