This specimen was lot 2899 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "ANHALT-BERNBURG: Alexander Karl, 1834-1863, AR thaler, 1861-A, somewhat prooflike surfaces with hairlines, Unc, ex Joe Sedillot Collection." This fairly scarce thaler was struck 1861-62 in honor of the local mines. The crowned bear walking on the wall is a pun on Bernburg, which means "bear city" in German. The line lapsed in 1863.
