This specimen was lot 21195 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Las Vegas, August 2020), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Anhalt-Bernburg. Taler, 1796-HS. Friedrich Albrecht. PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield. The only graded example of the date in the PCGS census, this stunning near Gem radiates with original mint luster and offers an appealing gunmetal gray nature accentuated by some deeper hints of toning throughout." This type was struck 1795-96 and is scarce. It is a source of frustration for many collectors that the coinage of this state is fairly common but thalers are rare.
Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.
Specification: 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver.
Catalog reference: Dav-1906; KM-60.
