Anhalt-Bernburg 1635 thaler Dav-6006
This specimen was lot 4047 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €1,900 (about US$2,614 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ANHALT-BERNBURG, FÜRSTENTUM, SEIT 1806 HERZOGTUM Christian II., 1630-1656. Reichstaler 1635, mit Titel Ferdinands II. RR Winz. Henkelspur (?), sehr schön. (principality of Anhalt-Bernburg, Christian II, 1630-56, thaler of 1635, struck in the name of Ferdinand II. Very rare, may have a mount mark, very fine.)"
This type was struck 1635 only and is very rare. The supseding type, KM 2/Dav-6007, struck 1636, 1640, 1643-45, is much more available. These thalers are the only coins listed in the SCWC for the 17th century for this state. The Anhalt-Bernburg line survived until 1863 when the last duke died in an insane asylum.
