This type was struck 1953-74 for the Portuguese colony of Angola on the west coast of Africa south of the Congo. Altho this is not a rare date, it is not so common as the later dates. After a protracted struggle, Angola obtained its independence in 1975 and then dissolved into civil war as various factions contended for control.

Recorded mintage: 2,989,000.

Specification: 8 g, bronze, 26 mm diameter.
