This specimen was lot 1269 in Stephen Album internet sale 28 (Santa Rosa, CA, July 2024), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "ANGOLA: Portuguese Colony, AR 10 escudos, 1955, a fantastic example, PCGS graded MS66." This type was struck 1952 and 1955 for the Portuguese colony of Angola on the west coast of Africa south of the Congo. The two dates are priced the same in the SCWC. After a protracted struggle, Angola obtained its independence in 1975 and then dissolved into civil war as various factions contended for control. This example realized thirteen times the catalog value.
