Angmagssalik (1894) 500 ore
This specimen was lot 47507 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREENLAND. Angmagssalik. Royal Greenland Trade Co. Zinc 500 Ore, ND (1894). PCGS AU-58. Rare issue." This company, which had a royal monopoly on trading with the Inuit, issued tokens in denominations of one, five, ten, 25, fifty, 100 and 500 øre. The series of 1894 were all in zinc; all are rare. The 500 øre comes with or without the "Am" counterstamp. The series of 1905 was in aluminum. Angmagssalik was a municipality, since abolished, of East Greenland. At the time of its reorganization in 2005, the population was about 3,000.
