Albania 1988 50 leke
This specimen was lot 42240 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "ALBANIA. 50 Leke, 1988. PCGS PROOF-65 DEEP CAMEO Gold Shield. 42nd Anniversary of the first railroad. Exhibits train emerging from a tunnel, the tunnel being a half moon shaped hole in the flan. Mirrored peripheral fields with frosted central devices. From the Collection of Dr. James Eustace Bizzell." Albania, the most isolated country in Europe, had more reason than most to celebrate the coming of the railroad to its territory. This NCLT was accompanied by a copper-nickel 5 leke (KM 61), gold 100 leke (KM 63) and gold 7500 leke (KM 64).
