This specimen was lot 1492 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $96. The catalog description[1] noted, "AFGHANISTAN: Republic, 5 afghanis, 1973/SH1352, British Royal Mint issue, a fantastic example, PCGS graded MS66." It is dated using the Solar Hegira calendar, which starts on the same date as the traditional Hegira calendar but uses solar years rather than lunar years. This example realized 38 times the catalog value.
