This specimen was lot 1488 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "AFGHANISTAN: Muhammad Zahir Shah, 1933-1973, aluminum 10 afghani, Kabul, SH1336, ruler's name, denomination below in Pashto // mosque, mint name above, date below, lovely XF, RRR, ex Hakim Hamidi Collection. This type was never released for circulation. A small group surfaced in about the 1980s, quickly sold out, and none have appeared on CoinArchives and ACSearch since 2000." Coins of this period are on the Solar Hegira calendar, as here, which starts on the same date as the traditional Hegira calendar but uses solar years rather than lunar years.
