Stephen Album sale 50, lot 3626

This specimen was lot 3626 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $204. The catalog description[1] noted, "AFGHANISTAN: Muhammad Nadir Shah, 1929-1933, AE 2 pul, SH1311, a lovely lustrous example! PCGS graded MS63 BN, ex Hakim Hamidi Collection." Coins of this period are sometimes dated on the traditional Muslim calendar, or on the Solar Hegira calendar, as here, which starts on the same date as the traditional Hegira calendar but uses solar years rather than lunar years. This type was struck for Muhammad Nadir Shah in SH1311-1314. The SCWC attributes this to his successor Muhammad Zahir Shah. One hundred pul made an afghani.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 2 g, bronze or brass.

Catalog reference: KM-928, H-65.
