Stephen Album sale 47, lot 1012

This specimen was lot 1012 in Stephen Album sale 47 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $1,680. The catalog description[1] noted, "AFGHANISTAN: Muhammad Nadir Shah, 1929-1933, AV 20 afghani, AH1350 year 3 (1933), lots of original luster! NGC graded MS63, R." This type was struck AH 1348-1350 and is rare. Coins of this period are sometimes dated on the traditional Muslim calendar, as here, or on the Solar Hegira calendar, which starts on the same date as the traditional Hegira calendar but uses solar years rather than lunar years.
