Afghanistan AH 1173(14) mohur
This specimen was lot 837 in Stephen Album sale 45 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2023), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "DURRANI: Ahmad Shah, 1747-1772, AV mohur, Shahjahanabad, AH1173 year 14, an attractive nearly mint state example, PCGS graded AU58. Incorrectly attributed on the slab to Mughal Empire, Shah Alam II, and called KM-765! A similar example, also AH1173 year 14 with the same rosette in the reverse center, was sold in our Auction 40, lot 782 (10.83 g, VF-EF grade)." Shahjahanabad is now a part of Old Delhi and was a capital for the Mughals. It was briefly taken by the Durranis of Afghanistan and this coin was issued during that occupation. Catalog number KM 765 is correct as this coin is depicted under that number in the listings for Afghanistan, not the Mughal Empire. It was also struck in year 13.
