This specimen was lot 77188 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2025), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Aachen. Groschen, 1420. CHOICE FINE." This obscure little coin would be completely ignored by collectors except that it is one of the first coins to bear AD dates. Aachen was the capital of Charlemagne's empire and remained a free city until 1794, when it was occupied by the army of revolutionary France.
