This type was struck 1927 only for the Portuguese colony of Angola on the west coast of Africa south of the Congo. It was accompanied by a copper-nickel ten centavos (KM 67), twenty centavos (KM 68) and fifty centavos (KM 69). After a protracted struggle, Angola obtained its independence in 1975 and then dissolved into civil war as various factions contended for control.
