Uruguay 1930 5 pesos rev DSLR.jpg

This type was struck in 1930 at Paris. Uruguayan coinage was sporadic in the twentieth century and many issues are rare; this one is common. The other issues of 1930 were an aluminum-bronze ten centésimos and a silver twenty centésimos. The SCWC notes that tho about 100,000 were minted, only about 14,000 were released. Whether or not this assertion is true, the coin is common and rarely seen circulated. The next issue of a five pesos coin, in 1965, used aluminum bronze instead of gold.

Recorded mintage: est. 100,000.

Specification: 8.485 g, .917 fine gold, .250 troy oz AGW, 22 mm diameter, designed by Lucien Bazor.

Catalog reference: KM 27.
