This specimen was lot 33747 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "Russian Federation gold Proof 'Nutcracker Ballet' 25 Roubles 1996(SP) PR70 Ultra Cameo NGC. A flawless example, currently tied for the finest graded, and with gorgeous complete cameo features." This NCLT honoring Russian ballet was issued by the post-Communist regime. The fall of Communism did not alleviate the desperate shortage of foreign exchange.
