Künker sale 336, lot 6340

This specimen was lot 6340 in Künker sale 336 (Osnabruck, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €750 (about US$982 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HONG KONG, Elizabeth II, 1952-1997. 1.000 Dollars 1983. Jahr des Schweines. 14,65 g Feingold. GOLD. Stempelglanz. (Hong Kong, Elizabeth II, 1952-97, one thousand dollars of 1983, year of the Pig. Uncirculated.)"

This one, the eighth in the series, honors the year of the Pig. British coinage for Hong Kong ceased in 1997 when the island was returned to China. China itself has issued dozens of different NCLT's featuring the Chinese zodiac but this series may be the first.

Recorded mintage: 33,000 plus 22,000 proofs.

Specification: 15.97 g, 0.917 fine gold, 0.470 troy oz AGW.
