Nicaragua 1943 centavo
This specimen was lot 3823 in Stephen Album sale 38 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2020), where it sold for $95.20. The catalog description[1] noted, "NICARAGUA: Republic, centavo, 1943, reverse struck-through error, one-year type, NGC graded MS65." This specimen is from a type struck 1943 only for Nicaragua, and was the first issue featuring the conquistador Cordoba. The type is common in circulated condition. It was accompanied by brass five (KM 21), ten (KM 22) and twenty-five centavos (KM 23). In 1967, the brutal and corrupt Luis Somoza died of a heart attack and was succeeded by his brutal, corrupt and incompetent brother, Anastasio, with baleful consequences for Nicaragua.
