Sincona sale 46, lot 464

The modern nation of Greece obtained independence from Ottoman Turkey in 1833. It functioned as a monarchy from that year until 1925 and again 1935-74. Since 1974, the country is the Hellenic Republic of Greece. This specimen was lot 464 in Sincona sale 46 (Zurich, May 2018), where it sold for 200 CHF (about US$240 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Griechenland, Republik, seit 1974. 2500 Drachmen 1982. XIII. Leichtathletik-Europameisterschaften. Spiridon Louis. Polierte Platte. FDC. (republic of Greece, 1982 2500 drachmai, 13th European Games. Choice Proof.)"

Recorded mintage: 50,000.
