Künker Auction 441, lot 4600

This specimen was lot 4600 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €3,000 (about US$4,127 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWARZBURG-SONDERSHAUSEN, GRAFSCHAFT, SEIT 1697 FÜRSTENTUM Günther Friedrich Carl II., 1835-1880. Vereinstaler 1865. Kabinettstück. Prachtvolle Patina, polierte Platte, min. berührt. Aus der Sammlung Jürgen und Erika Schmidt, Bovenden. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 246, Osnabrück 2014, Nr. 4678. (principality of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen, Gunther Frederick Charles II, 1835-80, union thaler of 1865. Cabinet piece, outstanding patina, proof planchet, some hairlines.)"

Schwarzburg-Sondershausen is one of the miscellaneous Saxon duchies in what is now Thuringia. This type, the only thaler struck for this principality in the nineteenth century, was struck in small numbers 1859, 1865 and 1870. Despite the small mintage, it is available.

Recorded mintage: 104,000.

Specification: 18.52 g, 0.900 fine silver, lettered edge, this specimen 18,52 g.

Catalog reference: KM 148, AKS 38; Dav-921; Kahnt 541; Thun 400.
