This type was struck 1944-51 at the Santiago mint. Uruguayan coinage was sporadic in the twentieth century and many issues are rare; this one is common. It replaced a copper-nickel type of similar design issued 1901-41. Similar one and two centésimos were also issued.

Recorded mintage: 2,800,000.

Specification: 5 g, copper.

Catalog reference: KM 21a.
