This silver fifty centavos, roughly equal to a half dollar, was struck in Potosi 1891-1900. It superseded a very similar coin (KM 161.4) issued 1884-91. This type is common tho varieties abound. The catalog mentions a 1894/1 and an 1894/84. Assayer CB is recorded for 1890-94, 1897-99 and assayer ES for 1894-97. The second specimen was part of lot 26610 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), which sold for $381.88. The catalog description[1] noted, "A 19 Piece Lot of Republic 50 Centavos 1891-1909, lot includes 19 pieces with 16 different dates. Grades range from VF to UNC, some weakly struck or cleaned."

Recorded mintage: 2,470,000.

Specification: 11.5 g, .900 fine silver, .332 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM 161.5.
