Sincona sale 100, lot 1154

This specimen was lot 1154 in Sincona Auction 100 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 36,000 CHF (about US$54,259 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Bistum Basel Johann Konrad I. von Roggenbach, 1656-1693. Dukat 1662, Pruntrut. SANC.HENRI. - ROM.IMPER. Kaiser Heinrich II. mit Kirchenmodell und Zepter. Rv. IOH./CONRAR/D:G.EPIS/.BASIL/IEN. Fünf Zeilen Schrift in verzierter Kartusche mit Mitra, Krummstab und Schwert. Von grösster Seltenheit. Vorzüglich. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. Exemplar der Slg. Konrad Bürki. (Switzerland, bishopric of Basel, Johann Konrad I. von Roggenbach, 1656-93, ducat of 1662, Pruntrut mint. Obverse: emperor Henry II holding a model church and a scepter; reverse: five line inscription in a cartouche with miter, crozier and sword. Of the highest rarity, Extremely Fine, Magnificent condition.)"

The bishop of Basel was driven from his seat when Basel turned Protestant during the Reformation. He resided in Pruntrut and issued coins from there. This rare type, struck by the bishop, not the city, was also issued in 1659.
