Solms-Laubach (1738)-AV N thaler Dav-2778
This specimen was lot 2539 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 7,000 CHF (about US$10,551 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Solms-Laubach, Christian August, 1738-1784. Taler o. J. (1738), Nürnberg. Auf seinen Regierungsantritt. Stempelschneider Andreas Vestner. Geharnischtes Brustbild nach rechts mit umgelegtem Mantel, am Armabschnitt A.V., unten N. Rv. Engel mit Schriftband schwebt zwischen Wolken über der Stadtansicht von Laubach, im Vordergrund halten zwei nach vorne blickende Löwen das gekrönte, mehrfeldige Wappen. Sehr selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Feine Patina. (Germany, county of Solms-Laubach, Christian August, 1738-84, undated thaler, circa 1738, Nuremberg mint, on his accession. Obverse: armored and mantled bust right; reverse: an eagle holds a banner over a city view of Laubach. Very rare, especially in this condition. NGC MS63, Nicely toned.)"
This rare issue celebrated the count's accession. The county was mediatized to Hesse-Darmstadt in 1806 but the last coinage is dated 1770.
