the Stack's Bowers 2020 NYINC sale, lot 23660

This specimen was lot 23660 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $156. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. 1/6 Riksdaler, 1808-OL. Stockholm Mint. Gustav IV Adolf. NGC MS-64+. A blast white example of the type with flashy fields and struck with a slightly cracked obverse die." Collecting Swedish coins is complicated by the multiple currency reforms the country underwent, beginning in 1798. The öre and mark were dropped and the skilling, 1/48 of a riksdaler, introduced. This type was struck 1801-09. There is another 1/6 riksdaler (KM 568) struck in 1809 for Carl XIII.
