Milan 1702 filippo Dav-1379
This specimen was lot 1168 in SINCONA sale 1 (Zurich, June 2011), where it sold for 1700 CHF ($2,367 including buyer's fee). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Milano Filippo V. 1700-1713. Filippo 1702. Brustbild nach rechts, darunter die Jahreszahl. Rv. Gekröntes Wappen. Sehr schön. (Duchy of Milan, Philip V of Spain, 1700-13, filippo of 1702. Bust facing right, date below; reverse: crowned arms. Very fine.)"
The duchy of Milan was under Spanish administration from the time of Charles I (1516-56) to the death of Charles II in 1700. Philip V, grandson of Louis XIV, became king of Spain but under the terms of the treaty of Utrecht of 1713, was forced to cede Milan to the Austrians, who ruled it until the coming of Napoleon. This type was accompanied by 1701 KM 102 (1/8 filippo), KM 104 (quarter filippo) and KM 107 (half filippo).
