This specimen was lot 46715 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Metz. Taler, 1634. PCGS Genuine--Mount Removed, VF Details." The bishop and city of Metz both issued coins but the town was under French occupation from the mid-1500's, which occupation was formally recognized by the Treaty of Westphalia in 1648. In the eighteenth century, the town was the site of a French mint, mintmark "AA." This type is listed for 1628-34.
