This specimen is one of a type issued since 1997 as part of the reform of the Mexican peso. It replaced a similar coin with the denomination written "N$5".

Recorded mintage: 424,826,146.

Specification: 7.07 g, aluminum bronze center in a stainless steel ring, 25.5 mm diameter, reeded edge.
