Germany 1958-J 2 pfennig
This specimen was lot 2606 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €500 (about US$708 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN AB 1871 · BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND, 2 Pfennig 1958 J. Von großer Seltenheit. Prachtexemplar. Polierte Platte. Aus der Sammlung eines deutschen Fabrikanten und Geschichtsfreundes. Exemplar der eLive Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 64, Januar 2021, Nr. 1311. (Germany, Federal Republic, two pfennig of 1958. Extremely rare, cabinet example, proof.)"
This type was struck for circulation in 1950 and 1958-68. The type was converted in 1968 to copper plated steel (KM 106a). This example is valuable because it is not listed in proof.
