France 1807-U 2 francs
This specimen was lot 43385 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $960. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. 2 Francs, 1807-U. Turin Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, VF Details. Despite a mintage figure that is near the middle within the series along with extensive handling and some prior cleaning, this RARE specimen remains eminently difficult to encounter and an undoubted KEY. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Umberto Fierro on 16 June 1988 for $295)." This type was struck 1806-07 at eleven mints. The Paris mint adopted a curly haired bust of Napoleon in 1807 which was contemptuously rejected by the Emperor and replaced by the laureate head, which the Turin mint did not adopt until 1808.
