Australia 1963(p) half penny

This specimen was lot 30058 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $3,818.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Elizabeth II Proof 1/2 Penny 1963-(P) PR67+ Red PCGS, Perth mint. Pristine red surfaces with incredible luster and tremendous eye-appeal." The type was issued 1959-64 from Melbourne and Perth.
Sterling coinage was struck for several countries besides Great Britain, including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Southern Rhodesia, Fiji and New Guinea. All converted to decimal coinage in the 1960's.
Recorded mintage: 16,410,000 plus 1,060 proofs.
